ChatGPT and software development

Me and a few others discuss in Infoworld magazine how Generative AI can be used by developers to write better code (or not).

I was honoured to be asked by Issac Sacolick to answer some questions around ChatGPT and software development. You can find the full article here and there are some great points in it made by Issac and the others that also contributed to the article.

Below is the jist of my thoughts and they haven’t changed much from the devops.com article earlier in the year.

It is a tool, but one that should be used with caution and not the panacea that some believe it to be. We need the human context of computing to do programming well and we should still be questioning the results we get from ChatGPT to ensure we’re not parroting hallucinations or producing bad code that remains unchecked.
