The Brighton Half Marathon. It’s been quite the journey to get here, although it’s only part of the way to the London Marathon at the end of April.

That aside, I’m very proud to have completed it! The first 21.1km I’ve done competitively, although I’ve now done it a fair few times in the. past few months!

One thing I would say is I was right to change from the soft grass trails to the concrete of the beach route that makes up the Brighton Half. When I started running this my legs felt odd as they haven’t experienced that in a long while, I could not have just jumped into this from trails. They’re both very different running styles, and while I prefer trails, these competitive road runs are also ace.

The route goes down to the edge of Brighton to the East and then turns to Hove in the west, and back. It’s a bit different to the route I ran in training (you’re on the road to start which is softer) but it was great.

Word of advice… Go for a pee before the race! I had to leave the race, find a pub, pee in the loo and then rejoin the race within the first 10 mins because I didn’t!

There were many great characters and it was great fun – dinosaur runner (pictured) was awesome. But special shout out goes to Man vs Fridge who was a Marine running with a fridge on his back for charity. To make things worse he was running at the same pace as me (and was faster than me in the end) so served as a constant reminder that I was slow enough for a man with a fridge on his back to beat me
😂.

Only kidding – I think 2:34:18 was good enough for my first and hats off to Man vs Fridge, an excellent effort.

At the end I was knackered but definitely worth it! Let’s hope I can now extend the distances to get me fit enough for the London Marathon! Unlike the Half Marathon where you frequently run more than 21km in training, the London Marathon you only run marathon distance when you do it!

If you can donate towards my #TeamBreathe London Marathon run for Asthma & Lung UK, and would like to, then please follow this link.
