Apache Tika Masala!

The first time speaking at Brighton JUG on February 23rd about an open source project close to my heart, Apache Tika.

Well since January these talks have really ramped up! I mean I’m very fortunate that it’s my job and it’s lots of fun, but it’s hard to keep thinking of content!

Anyhow…. 1st world problems over….. I got to speak at the Brighton JUG on 23rd February on one of my favourite open tools Apache Tika!

Chicken Tika

OK I should have eaten before writing this. Apache Tika is nothing to do about food but it’s an amazing tool to help with mimetype detection, text extraction, metadata surfacing and language detection on the input provided. It a very powerful tool that can be used within search pipelines but also as a cybersecurity tool to extract information to aid with malware analysis, or to see if a file is safe or not. I have used it for both of these purposes in the past.

I really should one day contribute to the project as I’ve used it so much without supporting it much, and it does genuinely bother me.

I think if ZAP is the longest tool I’ve used at 10 years, Apache TIka I used for 7 years of my career. I really should give back.

Anyhow here is the talk and hope you enjoy it!
