After 5 years with Mimecast it’s time for me to say farewell.
It was my final day at Mimecast. I gotta admit changing jobs in the post COVID world is not the massive get drunk and party vibe it once was but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
I can’t say a lot but I will miss Mimecast and the people. From working in the Search and Storage teams when I started, to moving into the Secrets Team building authentication and secrets management systems, engaging in threat modelling, Security Champions programs, volunteering to analyse malware found in emails, dealing with incident response, I learnt a lot of the skills that have enabled this transition possible. As Mimecast CEO Peter Bauer always says, “I hope Mimecast is the place you do your best work”, and I certainly believe it has been.
So why the change? Well Sonatype have offered an opportunity I can’t refuse. Being able to get paid to talk about my past experiences in development and cybersecurity to help people. I’ve been told there will be a chance to travel the world but it also won’t be too much, it sounds like a great thing to at least try. Besides, they give great swag on joining!
It turns out I actually have quite a lot of experience in cybersecurity and it was great hearing some people I respect in the cyber field point out that I’ve been doing application security for a lot longer than starting at Mimecast, it just happened to be rolled into my development role before that, because it interested me. So imposter syndrome away with you, I’m in cyber, I have been for a long time, and I’m more than qualified to be speaking about it as I have a lot to give! I just need to start really believing that!
