Tech issues aside, I was fortunate enough to join a panel on Online Harm in the Cybersecurity Community and then Cyber House Party at International Cyber Expo
Well some days you can plan however how like and it still be a nightmare! Yesterday was such a day!
I had the privilege of joining a very important panel on Online Harm in the Cybersecurity Community for Infosecurity Magazine Autumn Online Summit. Alongside me was Nikki Webb and Mike Thompson from the Beer Farmers, Emily Overton, Rik Ferguson, and hosted by the former editor of Infosecurity Magazine, the wonderful Eleanor Dallaway!
This was a hugely important panel close to my heart that touched on racism, toxic behaviours, social media, calling out behaviour, doxxing, not laughing along, but also my own personal experience of someone making up some unfounded things about me, just simply because I disagreed with them on Twitter, resulting in some people trying to dox me and only stopping when I shared proof that the events didn’t happen as they had portrayed them.
It was a great panel and great for others to share their experiences too. You can find the panel webinar here.
So why was it a nightmare, you ask? Well the plan was for me to do the panel online with Nikki Webb at International Cyber Expo where we would find a room to do it. Sadly my train from Brighton got very delayed and had to frantically jump off the train at East Croydon and try to find somewhere to do the webinar from. This ended up being outside the Starbucks by East Croydon station as nowhere had a quiet space. I then found just as I joined the webinar that builders were building a tower block the next block down so lots of angle grinding, hammering and drilling was taken place! Luckily this noise didn’t come up on the recording and thanks so much to Eleanor for managing all of our camera issues and connection freezes that happened from time to time!
So after the webinar I spent the rest of the day at International Cyber Expo at Kensington Olympia. I had a great time in the community area hosted by Cyber House Party DJing alongside Marc Avery, Andy Green and Scott Littlehales throughout the day and evening. A lot of fun was had by all and great to see faces old and new – in particular it was awesome to finally meet Dan Card who I said on my last post that I really wanted to meet in person soon!
